Connections Pay!
Ever met someone and all they want to do is help you be better and succeed? Trust me these kind of people aren’t everywhere, but when you find them they truly give and give and give. Learn from these people and keep them close. The things they do, the interactions they have with others and the value they bring to life is immeasurable.
One of my dear friends made via Social Media and Facebook is Fawn Estes from http://www.fawnestes.com.
Fawn and I share so many things in common and recently found that we share the same primary network marketing company. If you’re not sure which company that is let me just tell you that Fawns nickname is the Gold and Silver Goddess. 
Last week Fawn surprised me with the video below. Just an amazing example of how giving she is and open to helping others. It completely shocked me and made me so happy to know her as a friend.

Networking and Lemonade
Spring time is in the air and about this time every year kids are home from school for Spring Break. Before too long mom’s and dad’s are ushering their young one’s outdoors for some fresh air and a much needed break for themselves.
Growing up I loved this time of year. Baseball season is here and as kids this was “GO TIME” for our Lemonade Stand!
My brother and I would get together our cups, pitchers and napkins, make up our signs, and stir up our first batch of ice cold goodness. To the corner James!
Now the coolest thing about that Lemonade Stand was two fold. First we had the opportunity to make little change for our pockets. People would stop or walk by and take in our refreshing treat. Second, we had the chance to be out and about with our friends and meet some new kids. The more friends a kid had the better!
Friends would come from blocks away to hang out with us at our stand and even bringing some of their pals we’ve not met before. Cousins who were in town for break or kids who were home schooled we didn’t know to well. Point is we connected with kids because it’s just what kids do.
As adults we have that same ability to connect, but do so with different intentions and I’m not sure that’s right.
Here recently I’ve been invited to and attending a lot more networking events / meet up’s than I have in the past. These events have been put on by various groups of people all with the same common theme. To network with others in the hope of generating business.
One problem with these kind of events is that business gets in the way of relationships. More and more people are leading with their profession or products and not with themselves as an individual.
I’ve been introduced to people and the first thing out of their mouth is, “Hi I’m Steve and I’m a Realtor!”. Seriously, why can’t you just be Steve? Let me get to know you before telling me what you do and how great you are at it!
This is why I’ve change my approach when meeting others similar to what I did with my lemonade stand. I introduce myself as James Hernandez and leave it at that. In every case my connection will ask me, “what do you do?” and I politely respond with, “I do a lot of great stuff, but I’m more interested in getting to know about you!”.
WHAT?!?!
“I’m more interested in getting to know about you!”
Who says stuff like this? I do!
We all know that people do business with those who they know, like and trust. If I start a connection off by getting to know the individual instead of the professional we’re headed down the path of knowing and liking each other.
Over time it’s almost a guarantee that trust will be built. When that happens business will be shared and the relationship will move in a new a prosperous direction.
For my recent connections who have made their way to my blog, thank you! I look forward to learning more about each of you and building a life long friendship.

Anyone in the industry of MLM / Network Marketing knows that generating leads is TOUGH!
Once you’ve burned through your friends and family otherwise know as your “warm market” it’s time to get on to the tougher prospects. Complete strangers (your cold market) who have NO IDEA who you are and in most cases would like to keep it that way.
ARRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!
This is where the common phrase of “duplication” comes in.
Industry leaders are leaders simply because they have found methods, strategies and tactics that help them generate traffic and leads IN THEIR SLEEP!
Now before we get all high-techy with our online funnels, squeeze pages, SEO and on and on…let’s not forget where the industry started.
OFFLINE!
Did I really just say that? Yeah…I did.
The MLM / Network marketing business was born offline and reps from all walks of life have made millions and millions of dollars this way. In todays instant gratification society we want our leads just like we want our grande, extra hot, double vanilla latte at Starbucks. Hot and ready to roll without even getting out of the car.
Sorry guys…you decided to be a marketer and that requires phone time, face time and some good old fashioned WORK!
BUT!
There is a way to get those leads quickly and with little effort on your part. Again, duplication.

Why I LOVE My Mailbox!
Hey I’m just like everyone else. I used to dread going to my mailbox because most of the time there was nothing to really get too excited about. OK, from time to time I’d get the awesome ValuePak coupon envelope. Really helpful if I need six different companies to come and fix my garage door or three carpet cleaning companies offering “buy two rooms get the third room FREE!” deal.
Come on…the mailbox is not cool. Well it wasn’t cool until recently.
Today was such a great day as I new I had something special waiting in my mailbox for me. (No it wasn’t sheets and sheets of Burger King coupons.)
I was SILVER!
I’m not kidding.

To host or not to host a home meeting or professional business reception (PBR) is the question.
Anyone in MLM / Network marketing has heard a strong message from their upline and that is to, “Host A Home Meeting”. Ok…why?
This past week I attended my first PBR and I have to say I was shocked! HOW COOL WAS THIS!
Here was a group of people, of whom some were currently promoting our company and some had yet to take the leap. In either case we were all here to learn more about a single topic. Everyone in the room has something in common!
Most meetings usually start with an introduction of some kind into who the presenters are and why is everyone there. Presentations are presentation and some have more gusto than others. Make sure yours isn’t putting the audience to sleep.
The real hit, In My Humble Opinion (IMHO) is when the talking is over and the product comes out. Newbies and current business partners alike get excited and amped when your product is of value or has a “WOW” factor to it. In our case…it’s money. Who doesn’t get excited about that!
More often than not by holding the product in their hands a prospect goes through the final decision making process in their head. The final push to get them to move to one side of the fence or the other. Either way, they are that much closer to the ultimate decision. In or out. No questions left to answer.

A few tips when holding your own PBR or Home Event.
- Keep things light and upbeat. STAY POSITIVE
- If you have No Show’s (which will happen) don’t acknowledge it
- Make sure your presentation environment is uncluttered and inviting
- Have plenty of your product on hand and ensure a “take away” of some kind is available
- Light snacks and drinks are fine, but NO ALCOHOL
- Keep pets out of the meeting area
- Ensure kids are with a sitter or are not a distraction
- HAVE FUN!!!
Trust me, there are plenty of blog posts, articles and others out there that will tell you home meetings are not where it’s at. Then again, there are plenty of people out there who still think 401k’s and the stock market is where to invest your money.

Video after video after video. YouTube can be a blessing or a curse.
You can kill a few million brain cells watching guys smack each other in the face or find successful entrepreneurs and learn from them.
Over the past two months I’ve been doing the latter.
My love affair with the MLM / Network Marketing world started in June of 2010 when I joined my first company. With all the excitement of owning my own business and dollar signs in my eyes I was off. Talking to everyone I could about my company and the benefits of the product as well as the opportunity!
I started building my team and thought, “Wow this is working!”. I’m going to be RICH!
Well reality started to set in and the more I spoke about the product and the company the more I found myself talking to myself. Don’t get me wrong, I love the product, but that’s just it. I’m in love with the product. I’m trying to make others love a product that they don’t really need nor in these economic times can they really afford. (I can get something similar to that at Costco for half the price!)
I know network marketing works but I needed a better product. I also needed strong leadership to help me overcome.
To YouTube I Go!
After hours and hours of recorded webinars, pitch videos and blog summaries I made a connection with my new business partner Joel Burrell.
After chatting a bit on Facebook I came to find out that Joel was based here in Denver, CO and was looking for strong leaders to join his team. (Seriously, his “Work With Joel” page has seven points that you must hit or be willing to work on to even be considered.)
After talking and seeing that I met the criteria I wanted to learn more about his company Numis Network. I was shocked! I couldn’t believe that here was a guy who wanted to do nothing more than coach and grow leaders. LOCALLY!
Although he doesn’t know it yet…I tested him to see if this was the truth.
I’m on Facebook during the day with questions, Joel is there to answer them.
Email at 10:30 PM, Joel is there with a response.
Skype at 8:00 AM, Joel is online welcoming me to my day.
THIS DUDE IS FOR REAL!
That was all I needed.
Yeah I watched the comp plan videos (which this company has the best comp plan in the business) and yes I watched and read all of the marketing materials. What mattered to me most was that I had a local leadership team that was available to me and willing to help me do everything to be successful.

All I can say is leaders make the difference.
You can have a great company with an amazing compensation plan and good products. Why would you ever want to work with a company where the leadership isn’t available and willing to help you “on-demand” at it seems Joel has been for me.

Where Did They Go?
You’ve had it! Working toward someone else’s dream was over.
This new venture was different and besides it was your own business! A network marketing business where others are making hundreds of thousands of dollars and you are pumped! You want this!
A few new reps here. A few new reps there.
The checks start rolling in and you’ve got dollar signs in your eyes!
This was going to be the way for you to attain your goal of…
Time freedom.
Financial freedom.
A vacation in Tahiti.
The golf trip of a life time.
And then… the leads stopped. It was like being alone in the desert waiting for someone, anyone to come by and pick you up to tell you it would all be OK.
You were doing everything your upline leaders were telling you to do.
“Expand your list and prospect.”
“Talk to everyone about the products and the opportunity and keep it simple.”
“Don’t prejudge anyone and involve all of use to help your efforts.”
